EEG Analysis Applied to Sleep
نویسنده
چکیده
The electroencephalogram (EEG) is a complex signal and an important brain state indicator (e.g. waking, sleep, seizure). Modern brain research is intimately linked to the feasibility to record the EEG and to its quantitative analysis. EEG spectral analysis (decomposing a signal into its constituent frequency components) is an important method to investigate brain activity. Basic principals of signal analysis (filtering, sampling, and spectral analysis) are reviewed and illustrated with applications to the sleep EEG.

Effect of Acute and Chronic Heat Exposure on Frequency of EEG Components in Different Sleep-Wake State in Young Rats
The recent literatures indicate that central nervous system (CNS) is highly vulnerable to systemic hyperthermia induced by whole body heating on conscious animals. In the present study, cerebral electrical activity or EEG (electroencephalogram) following exposure to high environmental heat has been studied in moving rats. Rats were divided into three group (i) acute heat stress-subjected to a s...
متن کاملUSEFULNESS OF SLEEP-DEPRIVED EEG IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF SEIZURE DISORDERS IN CHILDREN
The provocative effects of sleep deprivation (SD) on patients with seizure disorder and on the electroencephalogram (EEG ) are well known. The purpose of the study was to test its routine use and usefulness in the pediatric and adolescent age group with, or suspect of having, seizure disorder, especially those presenting with first unprovoked seizure. Between September 2000 and November 20...
متن کاملAnalysis of complexity of EEG during sleep.
New multichannel descriptors of EEG activity: complexity (omega), total power (zeta) and generalized frequency (phi) were applied to whole night sleep analysis in 11 healthy subjects. The values of omega and phi decreased systematically from waking to slow wave sleep, and increased systematically in consecutive NREM-REM sleep cycles. The changes of zeta were opposite to omega and phi. These des...
متن کاملDiagnosis of insomnia sleep disorder using short time frequency analysis of PSD approach applied on EEG signal using channel ROC-LOC
Insomnia is a sleep disorder in which the subject encounters problems in sleeping. The aim of this study is to identify insomnia events from normal or effected person using time frequency analysis of PSD approach applied on EEG signals using channel ROC-LOC. In this research article, attributes and waveform of EEG signals of Human being are examined. The aim of this study is to draw the result ...
متن کاملAutomatic Sleep Stages Detection Based on EEG Signals Using Combination of Classifiers
Sleep stages classification is one of the most important methods for diagnosis in psychiatry and neurology. In this paper, a combination of three kinds of classifiers are proposed which classify the EEG signal into five sleep stages including Awake, N-REM (non-rapid eye movement) stage 1, N-REM stage 2, N-REM stage 3 and 4 (also called Slow Wave Sleep), and REM. Twenty-five all night recordings...
